HighwaysNogales area road infrastructure projects are focused on connectivity between the Mariposa Port of Entry and I-19, a 4-lane interstate from the border to Tucson’s I-10. In particular, SR-189/Mariposa Road improvements onto I-19 are in process. An upgrade to Mexican Federal Highway 15 will allow trucks to travel at higher speeds with greater safety on the major corridor connecting the US and Mexico at Nogales, Arizona. The modernization of 800 kilometers between Nogales and Los Mochis is currently underway. Total investment will be approximately $2.2 billion USD.
Essential Expedited Air Transport & Customs Services
The Nogales International Airport (NIA) offers essential support to the maquilas for expedited air transport of freight. Customs services are provided at the airport with 1-hour notice prior to entering US airspace. NIA has the capacity to land a Boeing 737.

RailUnion Pacific Railroad operates the track from Nogales north to the East-West Sunset Route in Tucson and from Nogales south to Ferromex Rail running to Hermosillo, Guaymas and Guadalajara in Mexico. Union Pacific’s rail service makes Nogales an exclusive gateway along 700 miles of the US-Mexico border between Texas and California. The Nogales track averages 3 northbound trains a day.
